Answers to common questions about finding a private scan through FindScan.
FindScan helps you find and compare private imaging clinics. When you send an enquiry we pass your details to the clinic you chose, and the clinic contacts you to arrange the appointment. Your scan and your care are provided by the clinic.
Not usually for MRI, CT or ultrasound: most clinics listed on FindScan accept self-referral, so you can enquire directly. X-ray is different, because UK law requires a registered healthcare professional to refer you, and clinics arrange that through their own clinicians. If you are unsure which scan you need, the clinic can advise when they contact you, or you can speak to your GP first.
Treat it as a guide, not a quote. Prices on FindScan are what each clinic has told us it charges, and only the clinic can confirm the price for your scan, including whether the written report is included.
Prices on FindScan are a guide only. They are based on information each clinic publishes or gives us, can change at any time, and may depend on your clinical needs. They are not guaranteed, so please confirm the price directly with the clinic before your appointment.
It depends on the clinic and the type of scan. Ask the clinic when they contact you and they will tell you how and when the report will reach you. Reporting times are set by the clinic, not by FindScan.
Yes. You can include more than one scan type in a single enquiry, and the clinic will tell you whether they can be done in the same visit.
Tell the clinic as soon as they contact you, before anything is arranged. Some implants affect whether an MRI is suitable, and every clinic runs its own safety checks before an MRI. If you are not sure exactly what was fitted, your GP or the hospital that fitted it can confirm.
Independent imaging providers across the UK. We list clinics that are registered with the relevant regulator for where they operate, such as the Care Quality Commission in England, and you can check a clinic’s registration on the regulator’s own website.
We pass them to the clinic you selected so they can contact you, and we keep a record so we can help if something goes wrong. What we share, how long we keep it and your rights over it are set out in our Privacy Policy.
